"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/22/2025

During Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe, we belatedly celebrated Father's Day with several songs performed by Bluegrass fathers and their offspring.  We included songs by Bluegrass fathers and sons and daughters with last names of Feinberg, Harrell, Holt, McCoury, McGee, Monroe, Mullins, Paisley, Parmley, Stanley, Tuttle, and Watson.

New music played a large part in our broadcast, as well, as we included songs from recent or soon-to-be released projects by Wyatt Ellis, Rrinaco (also known as Corrina Rose Logston Stephens), Ralph Stanley II & the Clinch Mountain Boys, Don Rigsby, C.J. Lewandowski, Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, the Kody Norris Show, the Tennessee Bluegrass Band, Danny Paisley, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Missy Raines & Allegheny, the Seldom Scene, the Henhouse Prowlers, Laura Orshaw, Carson Peters & Iron Mountain, and Special Consensus.  Phew!  That's a whole lot of new!

Our next Bluegrass Cafe will be one from the archives, but we'll be back with another live broadcast on the first Sunday of July.  Sure hope you can join us!

Until then, take care and stay cool!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/8/2025

Early June seems like a good time to celebrate a birthday, so we did quite a bit of that during Sunday's Bluegrass Cafe.  Our show started with several selections featuring the great Tony Rice (June 8, 1951 - December 25, 2020), as even though the man is probably best known for the way he played his guitar, his vocals were always stellar, too.

Other birthdays we celebrated on Sunday included those of a Bluegrass pioneer who deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, Gloria Belle (June 9, 1939 - May 5, 2023), as well as a current singer who may someday be inducted into the Hall of Fame, Jamie Dailey (born June 9, 1975).  And we belatedly celebrated the birthday of a fine New Hampshire songwriter who also happens to be a nice guy, Rick Lang (born June 8, 1947).  Happy Birthday to all!

We spent about 45 minutes of our three hour broadcast today celebrating trains. The romance of the train never seems to go out of style, and we could easily fill a couple of shows with songs about this mode of transportation.  Maybe someday we will do just that.

Next week's Bluegrass Cafe will be one from the archives, but I'll plan to join you once again live in the studio on June 21st.  Hope you have a fine week, and, as always, thanks for listening to our program!

"Bluegrass Cafe" playlist - 6/1/2025

On the first day of June, we shared lots of songs in honor of a Bluegrass pioneer who would have turned 100 years old on June 1st -- Bluegrass Hall of Famer Hazel Dickens (June 1, 1925 - April 22, 2011).  In addition to being a raw, authentic, honest singer, Hazel was an amazingly wonderful songwriter.  We shared several of her songs on Sunday, including Hazel herself, Hazel with her long-time musical partner, Alice Gerrard, and several Hazel covers from lots of performers, including Flatt Lonesome, the Lynn Morris Band, Laurie Lewis & Kathy Kallick, Missy Raines & Allegheny, James King, and Hot Rize.

New music was a big part of the show, as well, as we included music from recently released- or soon-to-be-released recordings by Danny Paisley, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers, Missy Raines & Allegheny, Route 3, Shawn Lane & Richard Bennett, Ashley Graham, C.J. Lewandowski (with Del McCoury), Becky Buller, and Jason Burleson.

Hope you enjoyed the show, and are enjoying your June, so far!  We'll look forward to having you join us once again this coming Sunday afternoon for our next Bluegrass Cafe.

Have a good week!
